Reindeer Antler buds

Spring has sprung. Picture is of Hugo my entire boy (or he is entire for now) . Hugo dropped his a few weeks ago, his new set have just started to bud.

Watch this space because once they really get started they grow so quickly.

He does look so thin at the moment but he is still entire (castrate or not to castrate - that is the question?). Reindeer do not put weight on over the Winter, they gain a lot during the Summer, when they go into rut in the Autumn, they are in tiptop condition but entire males won't eat for weeks. In the wild many bulls would not survive in a harsh winter - natures way.. In this Northamptonshire home my boys WILL survive. Boris has lost his bits - as I need to work him at Christmas - Hugo I am still deciding - he's pretty (sorry Hugo - I meant handsome!)
